Packing Cubes: Worth the Hype?

Yes and Amen.

I was an early adopter of the packing cubes. For the past 8 years, my bags are more organized than they have ever been, thanks to the packing cubes!! I have to travel with order. It messes up my whole flow to just throw things in the bag and dig through it when it’s time to get dressed. I am also one of the weird ones who does not unpack her suitcase once I get to my travel destination. It just seems like a lot of work for a few days... especially knowing you have to pack it all up again. Thanks to my packing cubes, that’s not an issue for me.

The majority of the packing cubes come in several sizes. I have two or three sets because I am an over packer and due to the sizing of some of my clothes, I need two or three bigger options. So here’s how I pack a packing cube

The largest size in the set: Outfits for each day.

I try to group in similar styles. For instance, all of my “night out” or “date night” or “dressy” outfits go in one big bag. Then, all of my everyday clothes go in another. The big bags are where my core items live and I pack it by color to tell the difference between everyday and night out outfits.

The next size bag (medium) houses my pajamas and robe.

I will never travel without a robe. You never know when you need the added warmth, but you also need a barrier between you and your bed after a day of being out and about and before your travel. I pack these two things together, because I typically need them at the same time.

I use another medium bag for my sheets.

Yes, you read that right. I am a weirdo and pack sheets on vacations. Don’t even think you know what happens in those bed sheets that you share with strangers—you’re welcome, pack sheets

Smaller bags in the set can be used for underwear, bras, and socks.

I use the smallest for my bras and socks, as well as slips if necessary. I have a really cute Marleylilly bag that I use for my underwear. One side says clean, one says dirty—you know how that works. I will see if they still have it and link it on my Instagram stories if so.

Finally, the tiny bags...

I use the smallest bages for jewelry (like big bracelets and necklaces that do not fit in my jewelry bag), as well as chargers, lotions for bedtime (like Vaseline and hand lotion, or any oils), and for other random items like headbands.

Oh, almost forgot... SHOES!

How could I forget? Many of the sets come with one or two shoe bags to put your shoes in and what a life saver! I hate when the bottom of my shoes touch other things in my bag or the tops of other shoes- this prevents it! Let’s be real, I never travel with only two pair of shoes, so you will definitely need to order them individually to have more!

Outside of knowing exactly which bag to go to for the item you need once you unpack, the best part of using packing cubes is actually the unpacking time. You can easily through the bags in the laundry room and dump each straight into the washer once you are ready to wash, it eliminates that daunting laundry basket pile up.

True to form, my bags are monogrammed and full of color. Amazon has several options. You can spend a lot or a little, but honestly, they all serve the same purpose!

They could even work for kiddos who splits households too or nannies that spend the night!
