I am not sure there is anything better than sand between my toes. A beach itinerary means Memorial Day is on the horizon and even better, summer is upon us. Destin, Florida is a beautiful seaside town, filled with things to do, places to shop, some of the best places to eat and a beach scene incomparable to many other Florida destinations. Now I am dreaming of long summer nights, crickets chirping, dirty bath water due to sandy kiddos’ feet and a summer full of as many beach trips as I can get. Let’s go to Destin, Florida.
Day 1: Arrival and Check-In
We usually drive down early in the morning and make a pit stop or two before check in on the first day! I recommend stopping at Peach Park in Canton, Alabama to break up the drive, especially if you are traveling with little ones.
Once you arrive, head to the grocery store and stock up for the week! The best things to grab are easy options for breakfast and lunch as well as snacks and drinks.
Unpack and head to the beach for a quick walk and enjoy the sounds of the waves.
After you've gotten setted, grab some dinner at one of my recommendations below and save room for ice cream.
End your first day by checking out the Village at Baytowne Warf.
Day 2: Beach Day
It is time to soak up the sun! Take the day to relax at the beach. Relaxing to me means not hauling chairs down to the beach. Depending on your locations there are multiple chair rental services. Below are some of my favorites:
I love to read for the large part of the first day, dipping in the water at any time to cool off. We typically head up to the room to grab lunch around noon for a picnic on the beach. After lunch, spend the rest of the afternoon lounging, taking in the views and releasing the stress of the days!
Finally, enjoy some beach dining at one of my recommendations below.
Day 3: Beach and Shop
There is nothing better than starting your morning with coffee and a view of the ocean. Add a devotional or Bible study to feel connected to our creator.
Grab some breakfast then head to the beach.
After you've spent some time in the sand, head back to the room to get ready for shopping! If you are traveling with golfers, schedule a tee time in advance! Florida is known for their golf courses, Kelly Plantation being a top pick! While the men are golfing, be sure to check out Silver Sands Premium Outlets and Destin Commons for a traditional outdoor mall experience! Remember to shop small and shop local.
After you grab some dinner, be sure to visit Destin Harbor Boardwalk.
Day 4: Beach and Adventure Activities
Enjoy your coffee and breakfast in the room and head day to a day in the sun!
While at the beach, I recommend some adventure! Parasailing gives you a birds eye view of the wild life below. Craving something more thrilling, hop on a Banana Boat and hang on tight! If you like your adventure to be more relaxing, take a dolphin cruise! The boat captain always seems to find the best views of jumping dolphins!
We enjoy walks on the beach after dinner! Pack some flashlights for crab hunting!
Day 5: 30A and travel home
Sadly, it is the last day at the beach! Take one last stroll on the beach before packing up to head home!
After you've packed up, head out to 30A to visit all the little seaside towns. Grab some breakfast at the Donut Hole and explore the shops in Santa Rosa, Seaside, Rosemary Beach and Alys Beach.
Picture Pit Stops: The Seaside Tower, Rosemary Beach Post Office and Palm Trees at Alys Beach.
Did you fall in love with Rosemary Beach too? Find more details on visiting this beach town here.
Need a pit stop on your way home? Check out the Sweet Creek Farms farmers market in Montgomery, Alabama!
